Overweight and obesity in childhood has increased exponentially in recent decades, becoming a deep public health problem, which must be enough and justified reason to create an action plan to curb and reverse the situation.School nurses are key in early interventions aimed at these child health problems, both in prevention and health promotion, becoming active health agents given their daily work.Several studies on communication between them and parents of schoolchildren revealed a lack of knowledge in communication skills and tools. They described the stigmatizing experience of obesity and overweight, since they highlight countless ways of communication and emotional expression in assuming these problems. It clearly shows an inconsistency in the way of proceeding and further justifies the need to create unified and evidence-based procedures. Therefore, a deep pooling of criteria and skills is necessary in order to develop a strategic health plan at the school level and unify the lines of action according to a general and common protocol that, in addition, can be individualized to each student and its particularities. In addition to these requirements, the need to increase the training of professionals in effective communication skills and assertiveness becomes clear. With all this we will be able to empower the student and his family, being able to manage useful skills in the acquisition of healthy lifestyles.
