SPINAL CORD IMMOBILIZATION IN TRAUMA PATIENTS
Clinical decision tools as a strategy in restricting movement on potential traumatic spinal cord injury in an urban emergency service

Spinal Traumatic injuries are considered a paramount concern for global healthy. In this sense, there are ancestral procedures considered as irrefutable in prehospital assistance field, namely, spinal instrumental immobilization as the main foundation in trauma assistance. Yet, this procedure holds a more historical influence than a scientific one, and what evidence questions is the way to accomplish it, because there are not randomized clinical trials that evaluate the purpose of spinal immobilization just as its adverse effects in traumatic patients.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) belonging to British National Public Health System, had recently implemented the spinal cord trauma guidelines for immobilization through clinical resolution tools. This implementation entails a paradigm change, and it is based in studies carried out in other countries such as Australia, Norway, and Denmark about similar emergency systems to the British one.
However, it would be arguable that a prehospital emergency service based in a certain model, could implement procedures that involve evidence based on outcomes from another model of assistance, considering their evident baseline differences. Consequently, a study to analyse in quantitative terms the effects of two different strategies of spinal immobilization is suggested: regular immobilization versus clinical guided immobilization concerning to potential spinal cord injure in an urban Spanish Emergency Service.
