Abstract

Introduction. The global increase of life expectancy has raised the number of osteoarticular diseases. Thus, each year more people suffer from frailty falls and require a hip replacement. However, it is not a risk-free procedure, one of them being surgical site infections. According to the EPINE EPPS study in 2019, SSI are the most common healthcare associated infections.

Hypothesis and objectives. To evaluate the compliance of perioperative protocols in patients undergoing hip arthroplasty in Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón during 2019 and 2020.

Materials and methods. The study design is descriptive and ambispective, including patients with total or partial hip replacement in HUFA, from January 2019 to December 2020. Data was recovered through the process of medical history revision, and for the wound healing evolution there was a 3 month patient follow-up.

Results. A total of 362 hip replacements were studied in the established time period. Surgical preparation was adequate in the 89.2% (323) of the cases, and there was a good wound healing evolution in the 90.9% (329) of the surgeries.

Discussion. The strong consciousness of the professionals from HUFA at complying with surgical protocols could affect positively in the patient.
