Abstract

Introduction. Allergy to egg proteins is common in pediatric populations. Some vaccines are prepared from chicken embryonic fibroblasts and in chicken embryonic eggs, which can cause allergic reactions in such patients.

Objective. The main objective of this review is to evaluate the safety of inactivated chicken embryo cell vaccines administered to patients with food allergy to egg proteins.

Methods. The bibliographic search has been carried out using articles published between 2005 and 2020 of the following databases: Cochrane, PubMed and Google Academic

Results. Most doses given do not present reactions, being mild. An allergological study is performed in patients with previous reactions or persistent asthma. Fear of an adverse drug reaction leads to delays in delivery. Gelatins, antibiotics and other excipients are the etiology of most allergic reactions.

Conclusion. Immunization with these vaccines should not be postponed or contraindicated in patients allergic to the egg since there is no increased risk of allergic reaction, being most cases due to other components. Vaccination in allergy service will be carried out in cases of previous severe reaction or persistent asthma.
