Improvement of patient autonomy and perceived quality after removal of the elastomeric infuser at home

The development of elastomeric infusion systems, or infusers, has represented an important advance in the administration of drugs in certain clinical situations. The infuser must be removed once it is finished both at the Medical Day Hospital and at the user's home.
Objectives. Analyze the perception of the patient in relation to the management, autonomy and satisfaction with the method of withdrawal of the infuser at home; Evaluate the time spent in the withdrawal of the infuser in the Medical Day Hospital; Evaluate the time spent removing the infuser at home; Evaluate aspects of improvement in patient education about the withdrawal of the infuser.
Material and methods. It is an observational, descriptive and prospective study. Evaluates the withdrawal of the infuser at home in 28 patients. Parameters such as autonomy, satisfaction with the method used and withdrawal time are analyzed.
Results. Statistically significant differences were found when comparing the time spent removing the infuser in HDM and the time spent removing it at home (58.21 minutes versus 5.03).
Conclusions. The perception of the patient in relation to the management, autonomy and satisfaction with the method of withdrawal of the infuser at home, has been very positive; The time spent removing the infuser at home is much less than that spent in HDM; It is essential to carry out a correct health education on the withdrawal of the infuser.
