Abstract

The ERACS (Enhance Recovery After Cardiac Surgery) protocol is a multimodal rehabilitation program in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. It includes preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative strategies based on scientific evidence that improve the recovery and functionality of patients after surgery.

Based on challenges, strategies and humanization in the preoperative phase such as anxiety, experiences and concerns of the patient, carrying out personalization of care, clear and effective communication, psychological interventions and prehabilitation.

To transform the preoperative phase into an empathetic and person-centered experience not only benefits the patient but also strengthens the quality of the health system.
